Almaviva 2015

Almaviva 2015 was released today at €78 per bottle ex-negociant, up 11.4% on the 2014 release (€70). It is being offered by the international trade at £960 per 12×75, an increase of 20% on the 2014 release price of £800.

James Suckling is the only major critic to have scored the 2015 vintage. He awarded the wine a perfect 100-points and commented that it has a “glorious and complex nose”.

Prices for Almaviva are not closely correlated to critic scores. Instead they follow the traditional pricing pattern for fine wine where vintages appreciate in price with the passing of time, as the chart above shows.

With a price higher than Liv-ex’s ‘fair value’ trend line, today’s 2015 release may seem ambitious. However, when 100-point scores are involved, age can often become irrelevant. Followers of James Suckling, therefore, may find reason to be excited by this year’s release.
