Domaine Chevalier 2016 released

Domaine Chevalier 2016 has been released at €52.80 per bottle ex-negociant, a 18.9% increase on the 2015 release price of €44.40. It is being offered by UK merchants for £648 per case, up 40.9% in sterling terms on the 2015 initial price of £460 per 12×75.

Jane Anson awarded a score of 96 points, commenting that “this has all the signature welcome and power of the very best vintages of Domaine de Chevalier.” Neal Martin also praised this vintage, noting that “it bought to mind Burgundy rather than Bordeaux.” He scored the wine 94-96 points.

This vintage is entering the market with critic scores comparable with 2005, 2009 and 2010, yet at a price only beaten by the 2005. Given the age in bottle that these other vintages have, it might be hard work for this release to justify its price. Buyers looking for value might be drawn to the 2015, which carries the highest critic score of recent Domaine Chevalier offerings and is available at a 28.2% discount to the current release.

Domaine Chevalier Blanc 2016 has been released at €69.60 per bottle ex-negociant, a 5.5% increase on the 2015 price of €66. It is being offered by UK merchants for £850 per case, up 24.1% in sterling terms on the 2015 opening price of £685 per 12×75.
