Liv-ex Fine Wine 100 runs flat in May

LXFW100

With the trade’s attention fixed on the En Primeur campaign in May, value traded on the secondary market was down by 10% and both the Liv-ex Fine Wine 100 and the Liv-ex Fine Wine 50 ran flat. While the former drifted 0.06% to close the month on 241.85, the latter gained 0.08%, closing on 270.26.

The First Growths featured several times amongst both the best and worst performing wines in the index. Lafite Rothschild 2003 and Haut Brion 2010 – both 100 points from Robert Parker – featured in the table, gaining 6.6% and 5.4% respectively. Margaux 2005 also performed well ahead of Parker’s retrospective of the vintage due at the end of June. With 100 points from Neal Martin but 98 from Parker, perhaps buyers are anticipating an upgrade.
