Liv-ex Champagne 25 Index outshines Claret Chip

The Liv-ex Claret Chip Index was pulled in both directions last week, with Mouton 2005 and 2006 gaining six per cent each and Latour 2002 losing 11 per cent. Price falls prevailed, however, and the index closed at 353.84 on Friday – down 0.42 per cent on the previous week. The table below shows the week's top risers and fallers.

Whilst the market's re-evaluation of prices for top claret has resulted in sharp falls in recent months, other wines have proved more resilient. On Friday, we highlighted Yquem's steady climb over the last year. And although Champagne's performance has been less spectacular, prices have held firm and the Liv-ex Champagne 25 Index has significantly outperformed the Liv-ex Claret Chip.
