One of the more interesting data points that emerged following the recent sale of Lascombes was that the €200 million purchase price included €50 million of library stock.

Using the price data that we gathered to calculate the values of the top Bordeaux estates, we can surmise that this means that Lascombes was holding  approximately 125,000 cases of wine. (This assumes that all of the back vintages held are of the grand vin.)

If we extrapolate this out to the other 56 wines in our valuation (presuming that all of them hold a similar stock ratio), we can roughly calculate that the top chateaux are holding just over 3 million cases of wine, worth just over €5 billion. Or enough wine to keep the whole show on the road for almost four years, even if not another drop was produced.
