2007 trade heats up

By February 4, 2011Bordeaux, Fine Wine Market, Regions

The past few days have been all about the 07s, with trade particularly concentrated in the upper echelons of Left Bank Bordeaux. In total, the vintage accounted for almost 40% of exchange turnover, with ample stock available to feed the increase in demand. The table below shows a snapshot of the week’s most traded '07s by value.

 Most traded 07s

Second only to Lafite, Cos d’Estournel commanded an impressive 12% of exchange turnover and was the week’s most traded brand by volume. It was the 2007 vintage, however, that accounted for more than half of Cos trade. Fellow Super Second Leoville Las Cases also saw another week of increased activity, with the 2007s driving 81% of buying. Beyond Bordeaux, Sassicaia 07 was the most traded wine by value.

After seeing muted demand upon release, the 07s are finally starting to pick up the pace. This rise in favour is largely due to the fact that 2007 is, on average, the cheapest recent vintage of sought-after brands.
