Hong Kong boosts Lafite trade

Unprecedented buying at the Sotheby’s ex-cellars and SK auctions in Hong Kong, coupled with the recent announcement that the 08 vintage will feature the "lucky" Chinese figure eight, have resulted in a general uplift in Lafite prices on the exchange. An analysis of current prices shows that the last twelve vintages of Lafite have risen in value by an average of nine per cent over the last two weeks. And though none of the wines are approaching the same price level achieved at auction, there have been some notable climbers. The 2008, for example, rose from £8,800 per 12x75cl case on the 26th of October to £11,500 on on the 2nd of November, whilst the 2009 moved from £10,950 to £12,300 over the same period. Are these prices sustainable?

The graph below shows the average price movement of Lafite vintages 1998-2009.
