2009 prices continue to drift

By August 20, 2010Fine Wine Market

Two weeks ago we introduced our Bordeaux 2009 price-tracking index. Since then, as you can see in the graph below, prices have continued to drift marginally lower.

Wines that have been edging down include Margaux, which traded at £7,900 this morning (down from £9,050 at peak), and Mission Haut Brion, which is currently offered on the exchange at £5,050 (down from £6,100).

As we said two weeks ago, a slight dip in prices is relatively normal in the months following an en primeur campaign, as unsold stock looks harder to find buyers. What is somewhat surprising is the amount of stock that is still available, with more than 80 separate chateaux currently being offered on Liv-ex. Prices look set to meander for some time yet.
