  • Tier three of the Liv-ex Classification 2021 includes new entrants from Bordeaux
  • Feytit-Clinet and La Gaffelière have never qualified for inclusion before.

Tier three of the Liv-ex Classification 2021 is being published today. Three of the newly qualified entrants are from Bordeaux, including Right Bank estates Feytit-Clinet and La Gaffelière.

Neither wine has qualified for the classification before. Although this year’s list has seen several Bordeaux labels move down a tier – not least in tier three – a number of new entrants from the region shows that increasing diversification is expanding the secondary market for Bordeaux as well as Burgundy, Italy etc.

Feytit-Clinet

With an average trade price of £559 per dozen, Feytit-Clinet represents one of the more affordable entry points into Pomerol, one of the most expensive Bordeaux appellations.

So far this year the 2015, 2010, 2009 and 2016 vintages have been the top-traded by value on the Exchange.

The 2015 and 2016 both carry better scores from Vinous than the 2009 and 2010 yet the 2015 in particular sits at a sizeable discount. The 2015 has also risen over 9% in value over the past year.

Antonio Galloni noted in his in-bottle tasting that: “The 2015 Feytit-Clinet is a wine of dark, brooding intensity…  I wouldn’t dream of opening a bottle anytime soon.”

La Gaffelière

La Gaffelière meanwhile is the fourth most-traded St-Emilion grand cru by value so far this year and third most-traded by volume.

It has an average trade price of £628 per case. Trade by value has been focused around the 2018, 2017, 2015 and 2010 vintages.

The 2018 was rated 99-points by Galloni. With a current Market Price of £660 (12×75), it is up 22% over the last year.
