  • The wine has been released internationally for £2,990 (12×75).
  • “Menace and bite, but also beauty,” said Jane Anson.
  • The 2020 has the highest Benchmark Critic score.

The 2020 Château Trotanoy has been released for £2,990 per case. It is one of the highest-rated wines of the vintage, with several potential 100-point scores.

The release is 7% more expensive than the current Market Price of the 2019 but with its stronger scores still looks Fair Value. See more pricing analysis below.

Critical Opinion

Along with Château Margaux, the Pomerol estate saw its 2020 upgraded to a new bracket of 98-100 by Neal Martin late last month.

He wrote:  “Re-examining the Trotanoy at the offices of J-P Moueix, I feel this gives me the mandate to up my potential score. It is simply an astonishing Pomerol that takes all your senses by their lapels and demands attention.

“Let’s see what this boy can do in bottle then.”

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW likewise gave it a 98-100 point score. She said it was: “A truly impressive titan of a Pomerol, this is going to need a good 6-8 years in bottle, then should go on wowing for 40 years or more.”

Jane Anson scored it 98-points but said it had the “potential” to reach 100 when in bottle. She said it was, “a brilliant Trotanoy, showcasing so much of its personality, and why this is a long-living Pomerol that has menace and bite, but also beauty”.

Fair Value

The new release looks Fair Value considering its Benchmark Critic score. It is the highest-rated Trotanoy ever.

The 2018 and 2019 are the next best-rated, both with 98-points. The 2019 is 7% cheaper while the 2018 at £3,180 per case is 6% more expensive at present.

Possibly one of the most anticipated wines of the campaign, this will be highly popular.

As well as the 2019, the 96-point rated 2012 and 95-point rated 2017 and 2014 currently look good value among back vintages.
