  • The wine is available for £479 (12×75) SEP.
  • “A hugely promising wine,” says Antonio Galloni.
  • The 2019 and 2015 offer value versus today’s release.

Château Talbot 2020 has been released for €39.60 per bottle ex-négociant, up 17% on the 2019’s opening price.

The wine is being offered by the trade for £479 a case, this is 16.8% higher than the current Market price of the 2019.

This is one of the better-scored vintages by Benchmark Critic, Neal Martin. That said, there are back vintages that offer value relative to the 2020. See more Fair Value analysis below.

Critical opinion

Neal Martin rated the vintage 92-94, commenting on its “fragrant nose” and the way it “finishes with a flourish”. He added that it “may well land at the top of my banded score”.

Fellow Vinous critic, Antonio Galloni, rated it a slightly broader 92-95. He called it a “hugely promising wine” with “tons of intensity”.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW scored it 90-92 and James Suckling 94-95.

Fair Value

With Martin’s suggestion the 2020 could end up rated 94-points, there is a potential upside for buyers interested in today’s release.

The 2019 and 2020 are among the best-scored Talbots since 2005. The 2020 has a better score than the 2018 for example and is 6% cheaper.

Nonetheless, the 2019 with its current score of 93-95 from Martin is 16% cheaper than today’s release. The 93-point 2015 is 3% cheaper at £465 a case as well.

The Fair Value methodology also shows that the 2017, 2016, 2014 and 2012 vintages offer value at present.
