The wine has a recommended trade price of £2,220 a case, which is 26.7% higher than the current Market Price of the 2019.

Critical Opinion

Neal Martin (94-96) commented that the 2020 “marks the opening of a chapter with a new winemaking team in place”. He found the 2020 wine had a, “newfound personality and soul and a sense of Pomerol typicité”.

“Perhaps now it will begin challenging the Pomerol elite, which it ought to, given its terroir,” he added.

Antonio Galloni marked the wine slightly higher at 95-97, saying it was “easily the most Lafite-like L’Evangile I have ever tasted”.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW marked it higher still, 96-98+. She also remarked on the continuing trend to a, “fresher, more nuanced style”.

Fair Value

As with Duhart-Milon which is also from the Lafite Rothschild stable, L’Evangile has the highest correlation with scores from the Wine Advocate.

Using these scores and the Fair Value methodology, the 2020 looks fully priced. The 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019 all carry the same score as today’s release but are all under £2,000 a case.
